Being responsible also means that we empower an inclusive work environment in which a workforce as diverse as our customers and passengers can thrive. And we are proud of the value we create in the communities we are part of, for instance by helping develop young talent through education and training, and by fostering lifelong learning for our technicians.
Our focus areas
Our Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) priorities were identified through consultations with the Group Executive Committee and a selection of senior managers across our organization. A panel of independent experts added their insights to ensure our roadmap is focused on areas where we can make the biggest contribution.
Sustainable infrastructure
We continue to drive electrification our own service fleet and increase our investment in renewable energy production and efficiency measures at our production and owned sites. Across the whole Schindler Group we will procure 100% renewable energy.
Energy efficiency of products
We innovate and upgrade our products with digital and physical energy optimization features and components. Our goal is to continue supplying our customers with the most energy-efficient product possible to improve operational performance of their new buildings as well as modernizations.
Sustainable & resilient supply chain
We will invest in low carbon and efficient logistics, linked with returnable packaging, and gradual elimination of the use of plastics to future-proof our supply chains.
Resource efficiency
We focus on reducing the major share of our product’s carbon foot-print with piloting and expanding the commercially viable use of low-carbon steel and other substitute materials to minimize the impact of resource inflow.
Circularity
We focus on circularity by design and during product use, extending the lifetime of components with service, repair, refurbishments and modernizations. At the end of the cycle, we continue to put effort into responsible waste management.
Value chain engagements
We seek to strengthen strategic relationships by engaging directly with upstream and downstream suppliers and business associations in our value chain that are key lever for our ambitions.
Health & Safety
We are building on a longstanding safety culture and are following a new behavioral approach to foster renewed safety awareness and prevention culture.

Human rights
We focus on raising our own employees’ awareness of our Human Rights Policy and salient human rights issues. We are continuously strengthening our due diligence and grievance mechanism for human rights.
Green Mobility
Urban centers cause around 80% of the world’s pollution, and buildings consume 40% of world energy. Making both greener is essential to conserving a livable planet. Schindler contribute to making urban centers more sustainable with energy and resource-conserving mobility solutions. Our ultimate goal is zero net energy use, combined with high-quality mobility. We share the same goal - greener buildings.
Planning to save tomorrow
Schindler is known for farsighted energy planning. Prior to installation, our “Traffic Vision Planning” program simulates traffic patterns and analyzes usage-frequency in your building. It then calculates future energy consumption so you can optimize it long-term.
Sustainable mobility every day
About 80% of a building’s total environmental impact is produced during full operation times. We lower this by regular maintenance. This keeps your mobility solution clean, reliable and energy-efficient. Our maintenance teams use smart route planning to reduce their CO2 footprint. They drive electric vehicles where possible.
Green product technology
Schindler system-engineered mobility solutions help you build greener. From Miconic 10 to today’s PORT Technology, our innovations save energy and costs. Low-friction, regenerative drives, and no hazardous materials keep our product’s environmental impact down.
Turning old into green
Modernizing an elevator or escalator increases safety and comfort for passengers, and improves energy efficiency. Schindler installs new LED lighting, for example, PF1 energy-regenerating drives, and controls enabling stand-by modes. Modernizing with us can transform your old elevator into an energy-efficient system.
